Kitchen Tip Tuesday

This doesn't go with my post yesterday but it does go with keeping things simple. Sometimes these two things conflict each other though.

Now with the rush of the holidays over we all are doing a collective “sigh” I think. It can be so busy during that time.

One thing I started doing a few years ago is using aluminum pans (throw away) for freezing make ahead meals like lasagna and casseroles. I would make double or triple and freeze the rest in 9x9 aluminum pans. That way my pans weren’t in the freezer if I needed them. I didn’t have enough pans to freeze extras anyway. I would then wash these pans after using them to re use. If they were damaged I would toss.

Well I also started using them for pot lucks, taking meals to people, and holiday cooking. At pot lucks my pan wasn’t lost in the shuffle I wouldn’t have to hunt it down or wait for it to be empty to leave.

When meals have been brought to me one of the stresses was trying to figure out whose pan went to who. So to alleviate the stress for someone else I use these so they can just toss less clean up for them and I don’t have to worry that I have lost my marbles because I can’t find a favorite pan.

Holiday cleanup is easier when you can toss a big pan instead of trying to clean up on a very full stomach.

In this picture is 2 packs of pans I bought about 18 months ago the smaller ones had 30 in the pack the bigger 15. I have used a lot but I have also saved some as well. I wash ones I can but I also don’t stress over where my pan went. I used several to feed 60 missionarys in August and we saved all of them afterwards and washed them. But I didn't have to find several big pans to borrow or worry about damage either.

So for my quest this is something that is simple to me they take up space but it is space I am willing to give up for less stress.

This is a great tip--I've started doing the same thing for potlucks after losing one of my Pyrex dishes at one. Thanks!
