Kitchen Tip Tuesday

A few years ago I found a wonderful site that has all these great Mixes for making your own sauces, brownies, cakes etc. I love mixes so I wanted to share the site Budget101. She has alot of other things as well budget holidays, debt calculators, etc.

Last week a friend asked me about canning she wanted to know if you can can cream soups I have never seen it so I don’t think so. But I have never thought of it either I make dry mixes for what I want and then make the amount I need for a recipe right then and there. I keep glass jars from mayo etc for these mixes.

Here are 2 I love and are very versatile

Here is a Cream of Mushroom soup mix I leave out the mushrooms and add them later fresh if I can get them on sale like last week, dried, or canned.

2 c. whole-wheat pastry flour (or white flour)
1 c instant powdered milk
¾ c dried mushrooms (or do what I do)
3 T dried onion
3 T dried parsley
1 tsp dried minced garlic I left this out and used powered garlic it isn’t as potent but it is cheaper
1 tsp salt
Shake up and keep in a jar in the pantry
To make:
1-cup milk (I use water) in a saucepan adds ¼ mix heat on medium to high whisk it while it heating and when it’s thick it ready to use.

Alfredo sauce mix
This is another I love and use for all kinds of things great on pizza

2 c powdered milk
1 c flour
2 tsp salt
¼ white pepper I use regular
1 c chilled butter I use smart balance
(I also add dried parsley, garlic, and onion powder)

Combine above ingredients in a food processor or with a pastry knife blend till fine crumbs form. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

My label on the jar says to combine add ¼ mix to ½ water in saucepan whisk and heat till thick.

I love these and use them a lot.

thanks for sharing the mix recipes.

I have a question though...when you say 1/4 mix to 1/2 water are you talking in cups or 1/4 of the jar you have it in or ??? I am a little confused.

I love Budget101 site, I have learned a bunch of things from their site.
